Blackhouse The Grill On The Square - Steak and Wine Pairing

Blackhouse Grill Leeds

If you read my blog or know me personally then you'll know that I really love food. I love cooking, I love eating and I spend most of my disposable income on restaurant meals. Leeds is such a foodie city and I'm still constantly finding new restaurants that I haven't tried yet. Blackhouse Grill On The Square in Leeds happens to be one of them. Blackhouse has recently had a revamp and updated their food menu and I got invited to their Chefs Table Relaunch dinner.

Blackhouse Grill Leeds review

As soon as I stepped inside I fell in love with the atmosphere of the place. The decor is very classy with hints of wood, metal and leather but the thing that gives Blackhouse its very romantic atmosphere is the fairy lights hanging in the windows. I couldn't help but think that it would make the perfect date night spot. There's a bar in the middle of the restaurant where we were greeted with some refreshing cocktails and canap├ęs before being led into the newly opened conservatory for a steak and wine pairing experience.

I love steak but I'm by no means a connoisseur and the wine and steak pairing was very educational. Blackhouse import their steaks from the countries around the world that are known for producing the best quality beef. On the night they explained to us exactly where the meat has come from, the ageing process, the feeding and the different cuts. All the while there was a butcher doing a live demonstration showing us exactly how the different cuts of meat look like prior to cutting and cooking.

On the night we got to sample six different types of steak. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was the best steak I've ever had, even though it was served much too rare for my liking ( I can already imagine all of you steak lovers out there judging me). My three absolute favourites were the Longbone, Galician (steak from retired dairy cows) and the Butchers Block Ribeye. They were tender and full of flavour, paired with gorgeous red wines. To finish off the evening we got to try a trio of desserts. I mentioned my gluten intolerance and to my delight I still received three mini desserts all of which were absolutely stunning.

Blackhouse Grill on The Square isn't the cheapest of restaurants, but I really was blown away by the quality of the food there and I think it's the perfect restaurant to visit for a special occasion or simply when you feel like treating yourself and your tastebuds.
* I was invited to a complimentary dining experience but as always my review is completely honest and 100% my own opinion.

Until next time,

  1. Ooh this looks so good - I love the look of those drinks and the dessert you chose, and you're right, the decor is lovely. Nice and comfy looking, with a warm atmosphere from the lighting. I must go to Leeds and check out some of their restaurants in the New Year! Thank you as well for the lovely comments all the time. - Tasha
