The Summer Menu at Malmaison Chez Mal Brasserie

Eating out is probably one of my very favourite pass times, what can I say I love food! It's fair to say that when the awesome Restaurants of Leeds invited me to come to the Malmaison to celebrate the launch of their new website and try out the summer menu in Chez Mal restaurant, I got very excited!

We were greeted by Emma, the sales manager who briefly explained to us what the night will entail and then took us to a very cosy room for a prosecco and cocktail reception. There was a cocktail masterclass, where we had the opportunity to make our own cocktails. I can't recall what the cocktail was called but I do know that it was stunning and fresh.

We were then led to the main restaurant. Every seat had a gift bag filled black bomber cheese, crackers and custom made Malmaison chocolate. Cheese is my true love, so I was over the moon, and black bomber is definitely one of the very best cheeses out there! The attention to detail was second to none both in the presentation of the tables, the food and in customer service. The staff were topping up our glasses with wine quicker than we could drink them.

We got to try the new summer menu, which was laid out beautifully in a separate room and we were welcome to help ourselves to whatever we liked. There were little description baords beside the dishes which told us what they were and there was a waiter available to offer up any advice about any of the dishes we weren't sure about.

I've tried quite a few different 'summer' menus this year and usually the food isn't all that summery it's just new, at Malmaison however the summer menu was light and easy on the stomach truly living up to its name!
I tried the summer salad which consisted of baked feta cheese, parma ham, salad leaves, strawberries and fermented watermelon. In my head I felt like that combination just shouldn't work but in reality it was absolutely delicious. The other two show stealers for me were the NY strip steak, which was cooked to perfection, tender and creamy, I might have had three helpings... To go with it I had the minature cheese and mushroom loaded potato skins.
I also tried the lobster risotto which got served in a miniature rose gold pan. Me and some fellow bloggers almost squealed at how cute it looked, however I have to be honest out of about 7 different dishes that I tried I wasn't too keen on the lobster risotto,  I've never had lobster before and the flavour just wasn't for me.

There was a big array of desserts to choose from and I tried four different ones (don't judge) the chocolate mousse was absolutely to die for! It was rich and creamy but without being too sickly. There was also a fruity smoothie, peach and amaretto cream and healthy summer sundae. The peach and amaretto cream was quite a unique and delicious pairing. The smoothie and the healthy summer sundae were both lovely too but I thought they tasted more like breakfast than a dessert.

I had an awesome evening filled with delicious foods and will definitely going back to the Malmaison to sample more of their dishes!

*The food and drinks were complimentary but as always my opinion is 100% my own.

Until next time,
