USA Road Trip - Hooverdam an Grand Canyon

Travel posts are some of my absolute favourite to read because I live in a permanent state of wanderlust. They're also my favourite posts to write and I plan to have many many more feature on sunnydei, however they are also the most time consuming and that's the reason why this post about my USA roadtrip has been left in drafts for a few months now.
Last March me, the boy and our three friends went on a two week road trip around California, Arizona and Nevada. It was a trip filled with uncontrollable laughter, breathtaking sights and delicious foods.

Grand Canyon Road Trip

We saw and did so much that it would take me forever to write about each and every bit of the trip so I decided to share with you my favourite and most memorable parts of our adventure.

We started off in LA and then stopped off at the Hooverdam on our way to Arizona.

The Hoover Dam is made of concrete and I have to be honest I wasn't massively interested in seeing it. I'm a pretty nature sights or gorgeous city buildings kind of girl and this place had neither of those things to offer. However, it was on our way past and I'm glad that we stopped, because it was pretty cool sight to see and with the sun setting a good opportunity for some nice photos. Another awesome thing about the Hooverdam is that the state lines cross over so you can in Nevada one moment and a few steps later you're in Arizona. There's even two separate clocks to mark the time difference!

The next day we then drove through the famous route 66. Of course we had to stop and take some photos otherwise did it even happen?!

American roads are open and long and stretch out for miles and miles. What really took me by surprise is how rapidly the look of the landscape can change, sometimes we were surrounded by greenery and flat horizon for one hour and the next there was crazy mountain roads. Travelling around by car sometimes felt a little long but I think overall it really added to the whole experience of our trip. We also got to see stunning cars like the one below on little stops along the way.

The Grand Canyon was breathtaking

Grand Canyon Road Trip

It was like nothing I've ever seen in my life and possibly like nothing I will ever see again. The photos nor my words can do it justice. If there was one piece of advice I could offer to any other traveler is to go and see the Grand Canyon. It's absolutely incredible.
I just couldn't believe the sheer scale of it. I don't recall another moment in my life where I felt as little and as human as I did when I was there.

The Grand Canyon March

The Grand Canyon national park is huge and you can choose a route which you want to walk around it, I think the route we chose took us just over three hours (with regular photo breaks) and it was worth every step. If walking isn't quite your thing then there's also things like river rafting through the canyon, helicopter tours and so on, I found this website which could be helpful if you're planning a visit.

We were there in March so the temperature was very pleasant but not too hot, however if you are going in the summer months you need to be aware that it can get very very hot so you need to either visit very early in the morning or early evening to avoid it, and take lots of water and sunscreen!

One of the things that really surprised me was how many deers we saw! I'm sure they have some kind of special name but I don't know what it is, all I know was that they seemed to be accustomed to human, they were really cute and cut climb very steep surfaces!

I'm so glad I got to see the magnificent sights of the Grand Canyon and I hope to be back one day! If Have you ever seen anything that you know you will remember forever? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Ps. If you enjoyed you should check out what I got up to in LA.

Until next time,
You can also find me in all of these places, come say hi!
