Birthday weekend and Ox Pasture Hall review

I have just turned 24. To be honest, I can't quite believe it yet, I still feel like I'm 21! It's weird to think that I'm pretty much almost in my mid twenties. In order to celebrate and to distract me from the fact that I'm getting closer to my thirties me and the boy decided to get away from Leeds for a couple of days.
I celebrated my birthday by the seaside and we had an amazing time. We went to Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby and Scarborough with an overnight stay at Ox Pasture Hall Hotel.

We started our little break with fish and chips and a walk by the beach on Robin Hoods bay. We had fish and chips from a place called Mariondale and they were good, but not quite as good as I expected. After the fish and chips we tried to walk off as many calories as we could, and said that we both won't eat again until dinner only to stop for a tea and cake about an hour later. Robin Hoods bay is such a lovely little place for a walk by the beach. It's supposed to be a great beach for crabbing but no matter how hard we look we couldn't find any!

Next up we drove to Whitby, we parked the car by the Whitby Abbey, had a little look around, I made friends with some horses and then we walked down into the town centre. There was some kind of a gothic/steam punk event on so the whole town was filled with people dressed in very lavish gothic/vintage clothes. Felt a little like we had stepped inside some vampire film set a couple of hundred years ago. I've heard that Whitby is very popular for Gothic events and felt quite lucky to witness so many interesting outfits!

Whitby is very colourful and pretty. We walked around the town centre, visited some cute little shops (I bought some delicious fudge!) had a walk by the pier and then went into the penny arcades. I think the penny machines are fun, but I never let myself lose more than £2 as a rule! Before making our way to the hotel we stopped for some coffee and ice cream at Teare Wood's which was very tasty.

Whitby day out

I got invited to stay at Ox Pasture Hall country hotel in Scarborough Yorkshire. It was the perfect location because it was only a short drive from Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby and Scarborough.
As soon as we entered the grounds I was really impressed, I've never stayed in a countryside hotel and it was lovely to be surrounded by nature. We actually saw some pheasants just roaming around, the hotel grounds.

The staff at the hotel were really friendly and helpful, we were greeted with a smile and then made our way to our luxury suite. It consisted of a living room / living area, a bedroom with a king sized bed and a gorgeous bathroom. We had a beautiful view of the gardens from the hotel room too. The  rooms were full of light and the decor was quite minimalist with lots of natural wood and it really had the countryside feel to it.

After we settled into the room and had some hot drinks (the drink making station had an impressive selection of teas and even galaxy hot chocolate!) I decided to pamper myself with a hot bubble bath. We had spent the whole day walking so it felt absolutely glorious to just kick back and relax my muscles in some hot water.

Afterwards we went for a little wander around the hotel gardens. They are absolutely gorgeous!
There's a beautiful little seating area which is decorated with beautiful plants and flowers and there's even a little pond/lake. We sat on the bench and watched the sunset, it was lovely and so serene.

Once we started getting a little too chilly, we decided to pay the hotel's bar a visit and warm ourselves up with a cocktail! I had a white Russian aka the best cocktail ever and it was delicious.  The bar has a gorgeous little sitting area which looks really homely and cozy.
After some drinks it was time to enjoy our evening meal.

The restaurant was very quiet so we essentially had a private meal all to ourselves, it made it feel very special and quite romantic. The restaurant manager was really helpful and helped us pick our meals. We both decided to go for the 40 degrees salmon and caviar to start, and then I had a beef dish and the boy had duck for the main. We finished off the meal with an Italian chocolate dessert and a cheese board. I have to say that I'm usually not a big fan of hotel restaurants but this restaurant was brilliant. The service we received and the food was amazing. I've been informed that it will soon receive a Michelin star! I will have to come back again once it does for sure!

In the morning I opened some birthday presents in bed and then we headed down for breakfast. The breakfast was great, there was a choice of pastries, fruit, cereals and yoghurts, a full fry up, an omellete or you can request what you would like. I had scrambled eggs with tomatoes, bacon and mushrooms and the boy had an omellete with goats cheese and tomatoes. I was really pleased because they also had gluten free bread so I was able to have delicious and buttery toast with my breakfast. We had such a great time at Ox Pasture Hall, I couldn't recommend it highly enough for a romantic getaway.

Before we made our way back to Leeds we decided to spend the day in Scarborough. I had never been so wasn't really sure what to expect but I thought it was quite lovely. We spent hours walking along the beach and then went on a mission to find the little coloured huts which I've seen somewhere on the internet and decided that I just had to see them!

I really really enjoyed my birthday break away by the seaside, so much so that I decided to make a little vlog about it too! Please give it a watch and subscribe to my channel if you enjoyed it!

Until next time,
