I have lived in England for almost six years and in this time I've tried to go exploring and visit the seaside, new cities and little towns. In all honesty though nothing has quite matched up to The Lake District. I absolutely love it there, it is hands down my favourite place in England. The lakes are so beautiful that if it wasn't for the English weather I wouldn't believe that I wasn't abroad. The little towns and villages surrounding it are cute, colourful and full of character.
Last year for my birthday the boy treated me to a long weekend getaway to the Lake District and honestly it was one of my favourite breaks that we've had together. Not for one second did I wish I was somewhere abroad, in fact I spent three days pinching myself to remind me that I was still in England.
We stayed near lake Windermere which is the largest lake (10.5 miles long) in a gorgeous little inn surrounded by nothing but beautiful countryside. The Brown Horse Inn was absolutely lovely, I was so impressed that the boy found this spot all by himself ( I usually organise our holidays). The room, the bar and the dining area all had so much character and charisma. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the bar was stocked up with some really fancy rums and gins which we of course had to sample. I believe that since our visit a lot of the rooms in the inn have had a make over so they would probably look a little different now than in my pictures.
The restaurant which we absolutely loved was called Fellinis. It's a vegetarian restaurant and cinema! Me and the boy are both meat eaters but we were so impressed with the food and didn't miss the meat at all. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite sophisticated and romantic which made this the perfect place for my birthday meal. They had lots of gluten free options and the prices were very reasonable with all mains costing £11.95, they also surprised me with a little birthday dessert which was very sweet of them. The next time we go to the Lake District we will definitely be coming back to Fellinis!
Another restaurant which really impressed us was Jintana Thai Restaurant. The decoration of the restaurant was gorgeous with lots of quirky details. The service was great and the food was absolutely delicious! We ordered a Thai Red Curry and Green Curry and it came with sweet aromatic coconut rice. Me and the boy eat a lot of Thai food and I can honestly say that it was the nicest rice I've had anywhere that complimented the curries so well. We left feeling full and very happy, it was money well spent!
I had such an amazing three days exploring the Lake District, taking in the beautiful sights and enjoying good food. It is absolutely my favourite place in England and I hope I get to visit again soon. If you're feeling ready for a break please do consider this is a destination and I can promise that you won't be disappointed. I hope you enjoyed this post!

How we spent the days
We got really lucky with the weather and it didn't rain once the whole weekend. We spent most of our time outdoors, exploring and walking which was exactly how I wanted to spend my birthday weekend. We came with the car which is something that I highly recommend as it's much easier to get everywhere when you don't have to rely on public transport. We walked around Windermere and went to the Lake from different access points we also went to Ullswater and Derwent water which are both beautiful lakes.
I thin the picture below sums up just how happy I felt during our little getaway!
How we spent the nights
In the evenings we got dressed up and went into the town of Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside. Out of the three Ambleside was our favourite and we visited it more than one during our three day stay. It's a gorgeous little town full of cute independent shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants.
Until next time,
The Lake District is gorgeous - I love your photos!
